While a life-cycle approach allows assets and all associated work to be analysed and planned for per life phase, it is also possible to view assets as a system consisting of a hierarchy of sub-systems. Such a system hierarchy perspective allows an asset to be analysed based on the technological hierarchy of items contained therein.
In its simplest form such a hierarchy typically includes the following levels:
• Facility Level
e.g. Power Station
• Process / Plant Level e.g. Boiler Plant
• Equipment Level
e.g. Coal Mill
• Component Level e.g. Gearbox
• Material Level e.g. Cold Rolled Carbon Steel Plate
To deal with all levels within such an equipment hierarchy, it is firstly necessary to develop an asset register that uniquely identifies all items within a facility. Such a register should also facilitate an understanding of the hierarchical relationships of these items. This is where the asset register module in Fracttal helps you, by allowing you to create these hierarchical relationships between assets, their components/ sub-sets and where each is located.
Access Equipment Module
To access the Equipment register in Fracttal, in the main menu sidebar open up Assets then click on Equipment:
1. Equipment Register: Clicking on Equipment in the main menu side bar will bring up your equipment register. The equipment register houses all equipment across all sites/ facilities your user is associated with or have access to. Admin users will be able to see all equipment within the data base.
Equipment Register Basic Navigation
1. Equipment Register View: This allows you to quickly jump between a flat list view or a hierarchical tree view of your equipment register
2. Register Step: As you progress through your equipment register i.e. as you open up child assets, the register step will display the top most asset you are looking at and allows you to quickly jump back to a previous level or asset within the asset register
3.1 Is Part of Filter: This filter allows you to drill down to a sub-set/ component level by selecting the parent asset in this filter will bring up a list of all components/ sub-sets associated with the main equipment filter selected
3.2 Custom Field Filter: This filter allows you to call up a list of equipment associated with a specific custom field you created against the items
4. Equipment Register Columns: The columns of the equipment register in Fracttal is interactive. By clicking and dragging the columns you are able to move the columns around to display your equipment register how you want to view it. Fracttal also allows you to apply filters on each column which is handy for example if you want to view equipment associated with a specific manufacturer or model. All columns in the equipment register also has additional grouping and sorting options, click on the drop-down of a column to view these additional options
5. Drill-down Icon: Clicking on the drill-down icon will open up the associated sub-sets/ components/ child assets of the parent asset
6. Tick Box: The check/ tick boxes in the equipment register allows you to select one or multiple assets for editing. By clicking the top most check box in the header will select all the equipment in the list you are viewing
7. Add: This is where you click to add a new equipment item to your register
8. Edit: With an equipment item selected from the register, clicking the Edit button will allow you to edit the item. Selecting multiple equipment and then clicking on Edit will allow you to batch update/ edit the multiple items selected
9. Remove: With an item or multiple items selected from the equipment register, clicking Remove allows you to delete these items from the equipment register
*NOTE: Only items without any maintenance or spares consumption history can be deleted from the data base
10. More Options: Clicking on this button will open up additional options for the equipment register such as allowing you to print QR codes for the selected item(s), export the equipment register or import equipment to your database
